Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 31 in 2010). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service.[1] First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the Civil War), it was expanded after World War I.
While you're having a great time this weekend say a prayer of thanks to those who served for you.

Saying ‘No’ to the Value-Added Tax
For months, the value-added tax (VAT) was dismissed as simply a rumor; then, the “rumor” gained some traction when an Administration adviser, Paul Volcker, suggested that a value-added tax was a possibility in the near future to curb our nation’s deficit.
The VAT is a hidden, national sales tax that hits consumers across the board, rich and poor alike. Those countries where, as the Administration suggests, the VAT has “worked” have experienced increases from 5% at the introduction of the tax to 20% today. Moreover, their total tax burden has increased to over 40% of their GDP. The VAT tax is not a flat tax.
I believe a value-added tax is wrong and I am proud to cosponsor House Resolution 1346. This resolution unequivocally states that the VAT is not an option—-in other words, it’s off the table—-and that the House of Representatives flatly opposes such a tax. The Senate recently passed a similar resolution with a vote of 85-13.
Curbing our deficits is a top priority, but I believe we need to do that by cutting government, not taxing the middle class and small businesses again.
Tell Congress: No New Taxes
Stand by for one nasty tax increase idea. There has been talk in Washington of the "need" for a European-style tax on everything: the Value Added Tax, or VAT Tax.
The Los Angeles Times recently published an Op-Ed saying:
"A value-added tax would go a long way toward solving several of the country's fiscal and tax problems." (America Needs a VAT, Los Angeles Times, 5/24/10)
"A value-added tax would go a long way toward solving several of the country's fiscal and tax problems." (America Needs a VAT, Los Angeles Times, 5/24/10)
"President Obama told CNBC that a VAT is one of the major tax-reform alternatives being considered to close the budget gap." (America Needs a VAT, Los Angeles Times, 5/24/10)
And House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has suggested that a VAT Tax be considered as a principal means to reduce the federal deficit and generate more tax dollars for the federal government.
We all know what this means? More taxes are on the way! Take your stand right here, right now with your Online Tax Revolt against the proposed new European-style VAT TAX!

Important Healthcare Update: Webcast & Motion to Dismiss
Important update regarding Virginia's lawsuit to overturn the individual mandate contained in the recent healthcare bill. On May 24 the Federal government responded in the U.S. District Court with a motion to dismiss the suit. This is routine and we expected this to be their response.
My team and I will respond to this motion to dismiss by June 7. The Federal government then has until June 22 to reply to Virginia's response. There's going to be a lot of back-and-forth, and I intend to make sure to keep you in the loop throughout this process! Today, I want to let you know about a webcast we're going to be holding on June 16th to discuss where we are on the case, what you can expect going forward and the constitutional issues involved. As an early supporter of my efforts on this case - I wanted to make sure you have a chance to participate in the healthcare discussion. Will you join me in participating in this webcast?

Stop the Gas Tax
Supporter of American Energy,Two weeks ago we asked you to send a letter to your senators to urge them to reject the Kerry-Graham-Lieberman cap-and-trade energy tax (which they call the American Power Act). Well, I have good news for you: in just two short weeks, supporters of AEA sent nearly 4,000 letters to their senators! While that’s a great start, we need to keep the pressure on. Please help us meet our goal of 10,000 letters by the end of next week, June 4. Send a letter today (click on this)
To those of you who may not have gotten the last email, we must make our voices heard. We have to let our Senators know (click on this) that we can’t afford more expensive energy. The American Power Act is an energy tax and it will increase the price at the pump with a gas tax. It

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Walter B. Jones (NC-3) released the following statement after yesterday’s address to a joint session of Congress made by President Calderon of Mexico:
“I must say that I resent President Calderon coming into our country and criticizing our immigration laws. Mexico has some of the strictest immigration policies in the world, yet Mr. Calderon has the audacity to come into our Congress and criticize our laws. That is outrageous, and I am extremely disappointed that other members of Congress and the Obama Administration choose to applaud those remarks.”

FYI....The Kerry-Lieberman Global Warming Bill
American Solutions will once again be on the front lines of this legislative battle, and we are going to need your help to stop Kerry-Lieberman. Here is our simple three step plan to accomplish this:
1.) Tell the truth about this bill being a tax: Senators John Kerry and Joe Lieberman continue to deny that this bill is tax using clever political spin. We plan on making a full-court press in the media through TV appearances, op-eds, and letters-to-the editors from members like you to get the truth out to as many people as possible.
2.) Target swing votes in the Senate: We have identified twenty-three Senators who could likely vote either way on this piece of legislation. We plan to target these members in their home states with a variety of ads that will lead to a dramatic increase of pressure from their constituents.
3.) Grassroots Blitz: With your help, we want to make over 150,000 phone calls to members of the Senate in opposition to this bill. We also will help organize on-the-ground activities in key states as well as get American Solutions members to attend townhalls so we can get Senators on the record about whether they support or oppose this legislation.

As the gears of government grind metal against metal, most citizens are worried about our economic engine seizing disastrously but most legislators take a "politics as usual" and "What, Me Worry?" attitude. It's the spending, stupid. In Greece, government bribes of voters out of the national Treasury means that hairdressers and many others can retire with full pensions at age 50. An era of more and generous benefits, pay and policies funded out of taxpayers pockets now threatens the future of Greece and the entire European union and many have rightly asked, "are we next?".When politicians find that the shortest route to re-election is spending taxpayer's money on special interests' organized votes, government worker unions and pork barrel projects, even wealthy nations risk economic palsy that can cripple any chance at a healthy future. Recent studies here in the USA have shown that federal government workers are, on average, better paid with better benefits than their counterparts in the private sector.

Brace for what? Reality...Vote Incumbents OUT
With voters across the country embracing "outsiders" — from "tea party" candidate Rand Paul in Kentucky on the right to Pennsylvania Rep. Joe Sestak on the left — incumbents in both parties face a long, hot summer of trying to save their jobs.

Virginia's Fourth District Rep Promotes Common Sense
Leave it to Virginia...yes Virginia's Fourth District Congressman Forbes promotes common sense and shows the reasons why we voted for him with a list of simple truths;
Simple Truth 1.We need to stop apologizing for America and for American success.
Simple Truth 2.We need to keep terrorists off of our soil, not fight to get them here.
Simple Truth 3.We can defend America better from a position of strength, rather than a position of weakness. We should not disarm America.
Simple Truth 4.To defend America we need the best-trained, best-equipped Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.
Simple Truth 5.Our military personnel and their families must receive the support they have earned.
Simple Truth 6.Our defense strategy should be driven by defense needs, not by the budget.

Congratulations Great Britain!
Looking Good Wisconsin!
Wisconsin Republicans have yet to nominate a candidate for governor. Indeed, the state's primaryis not until Sept. 14. But two national GOP heavyweights -- former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich -- are bullish on the prospects of Scott Walker, the self-described, brown-bag-packing county executive of Milwaukee.
Listen to these principles,"Making political hay out of the lunch that he packs for himself, Walker has branded his events around the state as part of a "Brown Bag Movement" that has three tenets: (1) "don't spend more than you have"; (2) "smaller government is better government"; and (3) "people create jobs, not government." Sounds like the COMMON SENSE we need in government!

One Up, One Down
While mentioning the common sense initiative yesterday of Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell....we also have an initiative supported by another Virginian though unfortunately this is NOT one to support.
While the intention is good the precedent is bad. Read through the deal, control your emotions not to express outrage at such private companies bonus plans BUT concentrate on the precedent and ask yourself is this constitutional? Govern by law not "fairness."
From Jim Webb, Virginia Senator
Executive compensation. I introduced my Taxpayer Fairness Act as an amendment to the bill. My amendment would give American taxpayers an upside in the recovery of our economic system, which became possible only because their tax dollars saved it. It puts a one-time windfall tax on bonuses paid in 2010 to executives of the thirteen financial institutions that received $5 billion or more of taxpayer support under TARP or the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac). This one-time, 50 percent excise tax on bonuses above $400,000 would raise, at a minimum, an estimated $3.5 billion. Nothing is more fair or appropriate than to make American taxpayers whole after they infused our financial system with capital necessary for its recovery.

Repeal ObamaCare
From the Heritage Foundation
"The Road to Repeal is Well Under Way"We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it," Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told us just weeks before Congress passed President Barack Obama's health care plan. Well, the nation's post-passage Obamacare education continued yesterday when the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) confirmed that the federal government will have to spend an additional $115 billion implementing the law, bringing the total estimated cost to over $1 trillion.
Not waiting for this November's elections to change the leadership in Congress, states are leading the way on the road to repeal. According to The Washington Post 33 states have mounted legal and legislative challenges to the new law.".......hmmm only 33?

Yes, Yes and Yes
This is what we need more of....stop career politicians. It was never intended and when it becomes a career the only concern becomes being re-elected by whaterver means. It should be,"Thank you for your service and go home and back to the private sector."

A Virginia Hero
In the state of Virginia, whose leader, Gov. Bob McDonnell, this week followed through on an executive order he issued moments after taking office in January. The Governor’s Commission on Government Reform and Restructuring was appointed Friday and given a fast-track task of recommending ways to streamline state government.
“In light of the unprecedented budgetary challenges facing the Commonwealth and the increasing demand for core public services, government must become more effective and efficient,” McDonnell said. “The commission will work to put forth bold and innovative ideas to ensure that duplicative, outdated, unnecessary and ineffective services and service delivery methods are eliminated and that state revenues are dedicated to the core functions of government.”
LET me REPEAT...“The commission will work to put forth bold and innovative ideas to ensure that duplicative, outdated, unnecessary and ineffective services and service delivery methods are eliminated and that state revenues are dedicated to the core functions of government.”
THERE'S A GRAND IDEA.....GO VIRGINIA, LEAD the NATION!

I want to laugh though in this day and time you can't as some of the most ridiculous suggestions become fact.

We've Come a Long Way
We've come a long way from we started with this new experiment in "America." We have the foundation of a nation like no other on earth. It is a nation that has stood against some of the evils of time and has succumbed to some as well. It goes without saying that our founding father's weren't looking for a career when they went to the selected gathering points to represent their fellow citizens. They weren't grandstanding about their record and how a vote for them was vote for the future. Matter of fact they looked down on such and did not actively campaign. How well they did sticking to the principles they held dear to their hearts....can we find such fellow citizens today to approach public office with such an outlook? Politics as a career? Is that what it is all about? Is that why we are where we are? Think about it.

And Voices of Reason from the Cato Institute
If we want to “get control” of our border with Mexico, the smartest thing we could do would be to allow more workers to enter the United States legally under the umbrella of comprehensive immigration reform. Then we could focus our enforcement resources on a much smaller number of people who for whatever reason are still operating outside the law.
