Government by the ‘experts’ by George Will

“The legislative cannot transfer the power of making laws to any other hands. . . . The power of the legislative, being derived from the people . . . [is] only to make laws, and not to make legislators.”
— John Locke
“Second Treatise of Government”
Here, however, is a paradox of sovereignty: The sovereign people, possessing the right to be governed as they choose, might find the exercise of that right tiresome and so might choose to be governed in perpetuity by a despot they cannot subsequently remove. Congress did something like that in passing the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare. read more click here

The economy we have built for ourselves

"How did the richest and strongest country in history, triumphant in World War II and the Cold War, approach so soon the condition of the late Spanish and British empires as they began their precipitous declines?

The Prophetic C.S. Lewis

....by Joseph Sobran  June 13, 2000
"Deep political wisdom can be found in a writer who took very little interest in politics: C.S. Lewis, a scholar who achieved his greatest fame as a popular Christian writer.
.....Lewis was alarmed by another development we now take for granted: state control of education. He wrote: “I believe a man is happier, and happy in a richer way, if he has ‘the free-born mind.’ But I doubt whether he can have this without economic independence, which the new society is abolishing. For economic independence allows an education not controlled by Government; and in adult life it is the man who needs, and asks, nothing of government who can criticize its acts and snap his fingers at its ideology. Read Montaigne; that’s the voice of a man with his legs under his own table, eating the mutton and turnips raised on his own land. Who will talk like that when the State is everyone’s schoolmaster and employer?”
The “new society” was creating “membership in a debased modern sense – a massing together of persons as if they were pennies or counters.” It was “trying to drag the featureless repetition of the collective into the fuller and more concrete world of the family.”
More clearly than even Huxley and Orwell, Lewis saw that politics without morality could only end in tyranny. read more here

& reminders from the beginning

George Washington

"Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports . . . And let us indulge with caution the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion . . . Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail to the exclusion of religious principle."

John Adams

"[I]t is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue."
"[W]e have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. . . . Our constitution was made only for amoral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

Thomas Jefferson

"I hold the precepts of Jesus as delivered by Himself, to be the most pure, benevolent and sublime which have ever been preached to man..."

Why is it today that morals and ethics once held as standards of society are deemed backwards and unethical, lewd, uncouth behavior is accepted as norm?  I do not believe general society promotes this but for some reason the mass media highlights such and seems to drive us to believe this is who we are.  We are not and should maintain our guard not to become what they seem to want us to be

For over 140 years of this country’s history—from 1789 to 1932—balanced budgets or surplus budgets were the norm.  However, since 1960 the United States has run annual federal budget deficits in all but six fiscal years.

Holding the President Accountable on Libya

Last week, more than 70 days after President Obama sent our military to attack Libya without a congressional declaration of war, the House of Representatives finally voted on two resolutions attempting to rein in the president. This debate was long overdue, as polls show Americans increasingly are frustrated by congressional inaction. According to a CNN poll last week, 55 percent of the American people believe that Congress, not the president, should have the final authority to decide whether the U.S. should continue its military mission in Libya. Yet for more than 70 days Congress has ignored its constitutional obligations and allowed the president to usurp its authority.read more - click here

Hope & Change

If you hoped for a country on the verge of a (another)

great depression and the change you were looking for

was a downgrade of the U.S.'s sterling credit rating..

Then I guess you'd be ok with all of that talk

of 'hope and change."

Today the Labor Department released data showing that unemployment had inched up to 9.1% in May and Moody's Investment Services warned that the Fed is facing a downgraded credit rating. The White Houses's response? That all of this was just "bumps on the road to recovery."I'm not sure what road they're skipping down, but something tells me that it's yellow, made of brick, started in the blue country of Munchkins and ends in the Emerald City- where they are hoping that a wizard will be to give them their courage, brains and hearts back.read more - click here

June 6th, Remember D-Day

D-Day - A Second Front: In 1942, Winston Churchill and Franklin Roosevelt issued a statement that the western allies would work as quickly as possible to open a second front to relieve pressure on the Soviets. Though united in this goal, issues soon arose with the British who favored a thrust north from the Mediterranean, through Italy and into southern Germany. Against this, the Americans advocated a cross-Channel assault which would move through Western Europe along the shortest route to Germany. As American strength grew, they made it clear that this was the only approach they would support.  Read more here

Thomas Sowell - Listen to his every word

Seductive Beliefs

By Thomas Sowell
One of the painfully revealing episodes in Barack Obama's book "Dreams From My Father" describes his early experience listening to a sermon by the Reverend Jeremiah Wright. Among the things said in that sermon was that "white folks' greed runs a world in need." Obama was literally moved to tears by that sermon.
This sermon may have been like a revelation to Barack Obama but its explanation of economic and other differences was among the oldest-- and most factually discredited-- explanations of such difference among all sorts of peoples in all sorts of places. Yet it is an explanation that has long been politically seductive, in countries around the world.

"R" & "D" -They Just Take Turns Ripping Us Off

Many people think that there is a big difference between Democrats and Republicans, but I think there’s not much difference at all.  I have long said, the left and the right are really one body with two heads–they just take turns ripping us off.  Both parties are not all bad.  There are a few good eggs on both sides of the isle but only a few. Gerald Celente, founder of Trends Research, thinks much the same way as I do.  Celente is famous for making many spot on predictions about the future based on trends of today.  He is predicting that Congressman Ron Paul could win the Presidency in 2012.  He adds, “To me the dream ticket would be: Judge Andrew Napolitano from Freedom Watch Ron Paul and Ralph Nader, and I say Ralph Nader because I am concerned about the food I eat the water I drink and the air that I breath . . .  I believe in Ron Paul Judge Napolitano and a guy like Ralph Nader just to keep the oligarchs away from the door…”

Why Does Gas Cost So Much?

Why is gas so expensive?
ERIC BOLLING, FOX BUSINESS: Well, there are a lot of reasons. First and foremost, we don't drill enough of our own oil, Greta. We use 20 million barrels of-- you've heard these numbers before. We use 20 million barrels of crude oil a day in America. We only produce around six million barrels a day. We need to drill more.
A great example of why that would matter-- look at natural gas, where we use everything-- everything we use, we produce right here in North America. So it doesn't matter what happens geopolitically in Egypt or Cairo or Libya. It just doesn't matter what goes on there. It only matters what we produce here, and prices don't spike when geopolitics matters. So it's drilling, one, and it's the EPA, too, Greta. I've been saying for a long time they really need to relax these EPA standards on blended fuel.Read more click here

Memorial Day

Tomorrow, May 30th, is Memorial Day for Americans.  For my friends and family who served and the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who serve today and years past we sincerely thank you for your sacrifice.  In todays' world such sacrifice is sold short of the honor it should be afforded.  Servicemen and women are looked down upon by general society except on a few choice holidays.  Freedom is not free and too often the price is not paid by those who profit the most but by those who deserve the most.  God bless America. Video Tribute - click here

Cool Cal, Why Ron Paul is our Ideal for 2012

The tea party’s ideal presidential candidate would most likely be someone who combines the right political principles of limited government with a self-effacing approach to the wielding of power — and an aversion to the trappings of the office. A tall order in our day of 24-hour media coverage and political celebrity, when some potential presidential contenders appear on their own reality shows.Cool Cal - Click here

This is what the presidency stands for.  Did we throw off one king for another?  A lesser title with power beyond intention? No, our government was set up with a great system of checks and balances to ensure no one could assume power over another.  Though we've managed to change what we were meant to be as any no founding father would recognize their country today.  Shame on us and our fathers before to allow such.  It is time to set things as they should be and stop looking to the executive office as the "king," of our nation.  We are "King," though how many of us realize it?

The Dirty Old Man and the IMF by Patrick J. Buchanan

Monday, The New York Times wrote, "As the impact of Mr. Strauss-Kahn's predicament hit home, others, including some in the news media, began to reveal accounts, long suppressed or anonymous, of what they called Mr. Strauss-Kahn's previously predatory behavior toward women and his aggressive sexual pursuit of them, from students and journalists to subordinates."
As is not infrequently the case, Rep. Ron Paul nails it: "These are the kind of people running the IMF, and we want to turn the world's finances and the control of the money supply (over) to them?"What is this satyr doing running the IMF? How was a man of his Eurotrash reputation approved by the United States government? Such conduct may be pooh-poohed over the pond, but has our country dropped that low?''

Increase the Debt Limit????????

Are you kidding?  Absolutely no deal.  Neither "R" nor "D" should go for this one..would you extend credit to a notorious defaulter? They will sell it as a MUST MUST deal....same MUST MUST deal as bailing out AIG and GM.  More government control and interference into the market place and more money being poured down a black hole.

On the issue of the whether to raise the debt ceiling—allowing the government to borrow and spend even more money—President Barack Obama has resorted to dire predictions about what could happen if Congress does not take action. The Hill reports:"If investors around the world thought that the full faith and credit of the United States was not being backed up, if they thought that we might renege on our IOUs, it could unravel the entire financial system,” Obama said at a town hall meeting hosted by CBS last week but released Sunday.“We could have a worse recession than we already had, a worse financial crisis than we already had.”
And, likewise, U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner warned that if Congress does not raise the debt limit, the U.S. economy would likely enter a “double-dip recession” and added, “A default would inflict catastrophic, far-reaching damage on our nation’s economy, significantly reducing growth, and increasing unemployment.”
VS.
Heritage Foundation Vice President of Domestic and Economic Policy David S. Addington notes that those dire predictions just aren’t true. In discussing J.D. Foster’s paper “Congress Has Time and Options on Debt Limit,” Addington writes: "As Dr. Foster’s paper demonstrated, there will not be a default on the Federal debt when the Treasury reaches the statutory limit on its borrowing of $14.294 trillion.  The Treasury just will not be able to borrow any more money.  The Treasury would still pay debts that come due, putting off temporarily payment of less important obligations as necessary to pay the maturing debt.
President Obama’s prophecies about the debt limit obscure an underlying truth: The U.S. government must find a way to get control of spending.

Virginia Gov. Robert McDonnell: Less Government = More Money

Gov. McDonnell is a walking refutation of the liberal notion that spending and borrowing create wealth.
“You have to make those tough cuts, endure political criticism, knowing that in the long run your state is going to be healthier,” McDonnell told us.  “I realize that government doesn’t create jobs, and the ones that they do they are not really the ones you want.  You want the private sector ones, innovative jobs that are long-term going to grow the economy.”

Did your Rep. Vote to Increase Gas Prices?

The House this week passed two bills, the Putting the Gulf Back to Work Act and the Reversing President Obama’s Offshore Moratorium Act. These bills force the administration to act quickly on federal permits of offshore drilling and open new, energy rich areas to leasing. Immigration Truth.....

On Tuesday, President Obama outlined a plan for immigration reform that included the DREAM Act, which was then reintroduced in the United States Senate on Wednesday.  The DREAM Act, which I voted against last Congress and still oppose, would grant lawful resident status, and ultimately citizenship, to illegal immigrant children who attend college or perform a significant amount of community service.  The bill also permits illegal immigrant children to enlist in the military in order to attain citizenship.

The Fed and the Debt - Ron Paul

We are told that Congress must raise the debt ceiling limit or else the financial markets and the US economy will suffer great harm. In reality, raising the debt ceiling will allow the government to continue its fiscal profligacy. Fed financed deficits will continue; foreign investors will continue to divest their holdings of Treasury securities; the Fed will be forced to monetize new debt issuances, and prices will continue to rise as the standard of living of the average American continues to plummet. If we have learned anything from history, we should know that printing money out of thin air cannot lead to prosperity. It can only lead to penury. Click here

Alan Greenspan “Betrayed” Ayn Rand and Ruined the Economy

Dr. Yaron Brook, president of the Ayn Rand Institute, says the opposite is true: The economy is sputtering because the government's response was too heavy-handed.
"I think we should have let banks fail, let auto companies fail [and] let housing prices tank to reach their true bottom," he says. "If we'd done that back in 2008-09, we'd have gone deeper into recession but we would be out of it today." For more - Click here
